MILES OF MUSIC BROOKLYN CAMP is a multi-class, weekend workshop presented by Miles of Music at Brooklyn's Jalopy Theatre & School of Music. We explore traditional folk music, modern songwriting, and how they work together. The weekend begins on Friday night with an instructor concert and square dance. Workshops take place from 10am-6pm on Saturday with a break for a gourmet buffet lunch, followed by a music-listening cocktail hour at Jalopy Tavern, a sit-down banquet style dinner and a camper concert. Classes on Sunday go from 10am till around 3pm, with a break in the middle for lunch and cookies for our farewell jam.
Musical workshops will include fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and singing, as well as non-instrument-specific skills like songwriting, ensemble playing, ear training, visual arts, arranging and performance.
Our camps are a great place to meet other traditional musicians and songwriters in your local community. Two, three sometimes even four classes take place simultaneously in living rooms, classroom spaces and in the cozy Jalopy Tavern. Campers and volunteers help transform the space from classroom to communal banquet hall and back again throughout the weekend.
